WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2020

28 million
DEVICES COLLECTED
28 Million Devices Collected with ecoATM!
We’re celebrating a major milestone here at ecoATM – one that’s been over ten years in the making, and that we couldn’t have reached without the millions of smart consumers just like you!
As of April 2020, we have officially collected over 28 million devices at our kiosks. That’s over 28 million used, broken or damaged smartphones, mP3 players and tablets that have been either properly recycled or given a chance at second life.
What exactly does this number breakdown to, you may ask? Let’s dive into some estimates based on the Environmental Protection Agency assessment tool to paint a picture of how much this really is.
What 28 Million Devices Looks Like
When a device is collected at a kiosk, it is deferred from becoming a piece of electronic waste that could end up back in our natural environment. The other devices that aren’t so lucky, such as the ones remaining in your drawers at home or thrown into the trash, could become e-waste. This e-waste not only remains in landfills for many years, but also contains harsh chemicals that can have hazardous effects on our community’s help.
Here are example estimates of what purchasing, recycling and reusing 28 million devices looks like using the EPA calculator tool*:
- 28 million devices are roughly 7 million pounds of e-waste
- This is equivalent to the reduced electricity to power an estimate of 55,468 households for one year
- This same amount is equivalent to an estimate 12,236 tons of greenhouse gas emissions reduced

Where Do the Devices Collected at an ecoATM Kiosk Go?
Once a device is collected at an ecoATM kiosk, it begins its journey to one of two options. We either give the devices collected an opportunity for a new life or ensures the devices are properly recycled and materials reclaimed.
How to Join the Fight Against E-Waste with ecoATM Kiosks
With 53.6 million tons of e-waste discarded globally in 2019 alone and only about 17.4% of it recycled, it’s more important than ever to take electronic recycling seriously. Our kiosks are an excellent simple first step towards helping consumers to limiting e-waste and conveniently located in over 4,500 malls, grocers and retailers throughout the US. We accept all devices for either proper recycling or reuse. All you need to do is grab a valid state ID or driver’s license and your used devices and head to your local ecoATM kiosk.
We couldn’t have reached this milestone with your help. We thank all our partners and smart consumers for helping to fight for a future filled with less electronic waste and more sustainability!
