Fall 2020 Apple Event Recap: Here’s What You Missed

The internet world gathered around their screens this past Tuesday as Apple hosted their fully virtual Fall 2020 Apple event, announcing the highly anticipated iPhone 12 models. A new iPad and Apple watch have already been announced in the previous Apple Event which was held in July. This led to a few anxious months of wondering what we could expect from the iPhone 12, or if it would be delayed completely due to the pandemic.

If you didn’t have a chance to catch the big Fall event, have no fear. We wrapped everything in a quick update below to help you get familiar with the brand new HomePod mini and iPhone 12 models! 

HomePod Mini

The classic HomePod got a sweet little makeover for the brand-new HomePod mini. The new and improved speaker has computational audio and allows for multiple HomePod minis to connect for killer surround sound. The design is similar to the older model, covered in a tightly woven mesh material but with the addition of a newer light up display on top.

Apple also introduced Intercom technology, which allows you to send audio messages from your iPhone, Apple watch or other Apple devices to be played out of the HomePod mini of your choice. The new speaker will also be capable with Apple Music, the Radio.com app and a few other streaming services in the next upcoming months.

Available in white and space gray, the HomePod mini will be available for preorder on November 6th with shipping starting November 16th. The retail cost will be only $99, a big drop from the original HomePod price of $349.  

iPhone 12

Finally, the moment we’ve been waiting for – iPhone 12 is officially here! Well, the announcement is, but you’ll have to wait until October 16th or November 6th to preorder the model you want.

Here are the biggest updates we’ll be seeing with the new line of iPhones:  

• 5G Compatibility: Every iPhone 12 model will come equipped with 5G compatibility. The exciting announcement was paired with Verizon’s CEO Hans Vestburg announcing the company’s newest nationwide 5G network, a big jump for the major carrier. Adding 5G compatibility will mean incredibly fast speed for the new iPhones. The new models also offer the smart switch to a 4G network if the 5G isn’t necessary.
  
• A14 Bionic Chip: The new A14 chip will also be available in all new iPhone 12 models. This chip is up to 80% faster than the A13 chip, holds over 11.8 billion transistors and plays a huge part in making the iPhone 12 the fastest smartphone yet. 
  
• Ceramic Shield: Created with Corning, the screen on the iPhone 12 is constructed with Ceramic Shield technology. This is comprised of nano ceramic crystals tightly constructed together, making the new iPhone more durable than ever.
  
• MagSafe Technology: Say goodbye to annoying cases and hello to MagSafe, a new magnetic technology that allows for cases, charges and other accessories to slap on to the new iPhone 12. What makes the MagSafe tech even cooler is that you can stack one on top of the other, allowing your iPhone 12 to have a case, wallet and charge all at the same time!
• Environmental Push: In continuation with the announcement made back in July, Apple has pledged that all their products will be carbon neutral by 2030. This also comes with the pledge that one day they will source 100% recycled and renewable materials for all products and packaging.
• No More Wall Adaptor or Ear Buds: In addition to the above environmental plan, Apple has announced that all iPhone 12 models will not come with the standard wall adaptor or ear buds that all other models in the past have come with. Not to fear, the new phones will still have the USB-C to Lightning cable included.

• iPhone 12 Pro Max: Available for preorder November 6th, with retail availability on November 13th. Starting at $1099.
  
• iPhone 12 Mini: Available for preorder November 6th, with retail availability on November 13th. Starting at $699.
