Green - Maximizing Reuse

Our Goal - Automating eCycling to Maximize Device & Material Re-use
eWaste is the fastest growing toxic waste entering landfills around the globe. Simultaneously, the production of consumer electronics and mobile phones results in tremendous amounts of mining waste and requires energy resources that are often higher than those used throughout the life of the device. For example, producing one mobile phone generates more than three tons of mining waste just to produce the scant precious metals used in manufacturing the phone. Extending the life of the device through re-use is the most effective way toward minimizing the negative impacts of producing these devices.

The next step is to ensure that devices are handled responsibly once the end of its useful life has been reached. This can only be done by reclaiming the precious metals and other re-useable materials from the device. The cost of responsibly reclaiming and ensuring material re-use can be higher than dirty burning or simply throwing the devices into landfills so ecoATM ensures that all of the devices flowing through our systems and downstream are sold at prices that only support re-use (sold at much higher than the material value) or to internationally recognized smelters, such as Umicore (www.electronicscrap.umicore.com/home/).
