History
Jun 2008 - ecoATM set out to automate the inspection and take-back of mobile phones. With over 150M phones sold per year, the existing take back solutions for mobile phones were not functional, which resulted in most used phones going into drawers or landfills. ecoATM’s solution will transform this eWaste to the benefit of both consumers and retailers.
Dec 2008 - ecoATM demonstrates the first visual inspection sub-system for evaluating the condition and value of a used mobile phone.
Jan 2009 - ecoATM expands its solution to support a broader range of electronics, including portable consumer electronics and some larger devices as well.
March 2009 - ecoATM built eWaste compliance data collection and reporting functionality into all of the eCycling Stations. This resulted in numerous benefits to retailers; 1) eWaste Compliance, 2) trade-in/trade-up promotions, 3) increased store spending and 4) responsible recycling.
June 2009 - ecoATM installs the first Automated eCycling Station at large consumer electronics retailer
Sept 2009 - ecoATM begins live in-store trials with mobile carrier stores
